The Missing Link
Spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch
Is a phrase my friend uses ever time he leaves the house.
Just in case he doesn’t miss the most important pieces.
By following the hand movements,
He makes the sign of the cross.
A blessing a day may keep the demons away,
But the luster of true church lacks this appeal.
The incense and vibrant robes of sorrowful priests
Paired with the devotional confines of doctrine,
These embodiments of the one true God
Leave us wishing for more.
No compassion, no doubt, no will of their own
I am left missing the truth that God is.
But traditions die hard and
A simple four points suits me just fine.
