You Clean Up Good

It’s just me
“Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.” – Carrie Bradshaw

With all the yard work yesterday and today and the housework to boot, I was so embarrassed, yet still too tired to care when I noticed my gnarly dirty fingernails at work this morning. I am so ungirly sometimes. I once dated a guy who liked natural women with no makeup or perfume and preferably in jeans and tees. He was nice, but I liked being more feminine. Then I dated a guy who expected me to get my hair and nails done weekly, dress in skirts all the time and of course be super lady-like (without even a burp escaping). That didn’t work either.

To hell with what they want, I just have to be me. I wish I could dress more posh, but with these ankles my shoe sources are limited. I do sometimes sneak myself into cool shoes when I go out, but with limited walking involved. I paint my nails from time to time and even get my hair cut once in a while, but I just can’t pull off the diva façade. So for now I have dirty nails (maybe I should paint them to hide the dirt), bed head, Mary Janes and a smile.

BTW – check out the water spout picture someone took from our office building this morning – Wicked!
